John wanted a Raleigh Chopper as a young boy but his parents were oblivious and he got a copy with no three gear shift stick, he was crushed! Never mind.
Always a bike freak, he bounced around on a put together “scrambler” bicycle till BMX came to town. Racing Kuwaharas and later Redlines, he never won a race. Acquiring a track bike from a mate, he would pedal across the little island of Singapore on a fixie chasing buses, as there were no velodromes and if there were he would probably not win any races there either.
Coming to London in ’87, a Muddy Fox Courier was his first bike. Several machines later, he got back into BMX, riding street, trails and parks. Again not winning anything or being really good. As age caught up with him, road bikes became his friend and a dabble in Mountain Biking where possible.
Winning was never the aim or being great. Its the simple machines, friends, hanging out at a fave bike shop, night escapades, travel, digging trails, finding spots to ride, the solitude, the open road & trails were what matters. Hence, Bon Velo was born to give us all back those salad days. Good Cycling!
Karina was never afraid to try something new, building a custom hard tail she entered a downhill race in Germany. Pointing the bike straight down hill and never touching her brakes she bombed down with a grin on her face.
Coming back to England in 2007, she took up road bikes and after having her son Eddy (named after Merckx) entered her first Olympic Distance and completing it in an outstanding time! With her never say die and uncompromising attitude, she almost single handedly raised the Bon Velo shop from the ashes. And what a shop!
Attila always wanted to work with bicycles and after 14 years of experience around europe he’s found his home at Bon Velo.
There’s very little that he can’t fix, that’s why friends and former colleagues call him Doctor. Fixing isn’t all Attila does, he rides Trial bikes, Mountain Bikes, Fixie, Cyclo-Cross and Road. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Doctor.
Sam came to us for a Saturday job when we were just getting started. Now five years down the line he’s joined us full time. Sam’s a keen cyclist, is always up to date with the latest goings on in the industry and a mechanic as well.
Vroni moved to London from Germany in the long hot summer of 2014 and discovered her passion for cycling especially riding a fixed gear bicycle.
Since then her love of fixies have taken on many journeys, short, long distance and the velodrome. Super V and super friendly.
Born in Australia, growing up breaking and then fixing most things to working in a small bike shop in Sydney and then to London to hone his skills, he rides all kinds of bikes from fixies to road bikes to fat bikes, the wierder the bike the bigger the smile.
